Union Government in the union territory of Ladakh has accepted the formation of Central University. The construction cost of the upcoming university project is projected to be 750 crores. The first phase of the project will be completed in the coming four years said Union Minister Anurag Thakur.

The bill for amending the central Universities Act, 2009 will be in action to aid the formation of Central University in Ladakh.
The aim of the establishment of the University is to cure the imbalances of higher education in the region. This University will also act as the role model for the local universities.
The administration of the upcoming project will cover the whole region of Ladakh, including Leh and Kargil.
Anurag Thakur in addition said that the cabinet has also approved a special corporation for the development of the region. The decision was taken keeping in mind the region of Jammu and Kashmir.
This Corporation is formed to look after the improvement of local Industries, transports, and tourism services in Ladakh and developing and marketing local products and handicrafts.
The Corporation will drive development efforts in the region and create jobs there, minister said.
