NCRB HIGHEST CRIME CITIES: In the pandemic-hit 2020 Delhi, 1,699 cases of assault, 2,186 attacks and 65 cases of rape against youngsters were registered. Notwithstanding, there has been a decrease in cases as compared to 2019. This is the first time in quite a while that a wide range of violations against women has been reduced.
The NCRB considered the number of population in the 19 metropolitan urban communities according to the 2011 Census information. As per the report, the population in Delhi was 16.3 million.
The report delivered on Tuesday evening showed that police headquarters across the city have enrolled 245,844 cases under different areas of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the rate of 150.6 per million population of the city. There has been a decline of 18 percent between 2019 and 2020.
The contribution of strangers in assault cases in 2020 remained at 1.77 percent and 44 percent of the culprits were either family or family friends, contrasted with 2.20 percent in 2019, as per their yearly public interview by Delhi Police authorities, while 26% were other known people.
Last year, over 2.4 lakh cases – or in excess of 650 cases in a day – were registered by the Delhi Police. Though, in 2% of assault cases, bosses or co-workers were included. Neighbors were observed to be involved with 12% of the cases.
