About Louise Fletcher

Louise Fletcher was born in Alabama in July 1934. Louis’s parents were deaf but Loius and his siblings had no such disability. Louise and the rest of his siblings lived during their childhood with their aunt who taught them to speak. His aunt was also the one who encouraged Louise to enter the film industry.

She went to the University of Carolina situated at Chapel hill in 1957 and earned a bachelor’s degree in drama.


Her Career Start

Louise started her career with TV shows. She made a guest appearance on TV shows such as Bat Masterson, Maverick, The Untouchables, Wagon Train, and Perry Mason.

Her first film was ”Gathering of Eagles” which was released in 1963, its director was Delbert Mann. However, now Fletcher had decided to retire from acting and give time to her family.

Back After Retirement

In 1974, Louise again returned to the film industry. She played the character of Mattie in “Thieves like us” which is an American crime movie. The film was noticed by director Miloš Forman and he decided to cast Louis in his next film, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, an American psychological comedy-drama film. This film was released in 1975. Her popularity increased due to her role in this film, for which she also won the Academy Award for Best Actress, BAFTA Award and Golden Globe.

About Louise Movies

This was followed by some movies of Louise which did not do much at the box office like Heretic (1977), The Cheap Detective (1978), The Lady in Red (1979), The Magician of Lublin (1979), Brainstorm (1983), Firestarter ( 1984), Invaders From Mars (1986), Flowers in the Attic (1987), Two Moon Junction (1988), Best of the Best (1989), Blue Steel (1990).

Fetcher has done a lot of versatile movies in her lifetime, whether it’s romance movies like Once Upon A Time In America and A Perfect Man, horror movies like Shadowzone and Firestarter, or comedy movies like High School High. Her acting has always won the hearts of the audience. She also received Emmy Award nominations for the 1996 movie Picket Fences and the 2004 movie Joan of Arcadia.

Her Death

Louise Fletcher died on 23rd  September 2022 in Montdurausse, France at the age of 88.
