Musician and Indian singer Bappi Lahiri, who synthesized disco music in Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s, passed away today at the age of 69 at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai due to several health issues. Bappi Lahiri was popular in the 1980s and 1990s with soundtracks like Disco Dancer, Sharaabi, Commando, Wardat.
Bappi Lahiri is not only an Indian singer but also a politician and record producer. He achieved great success in Bengali films like Amar Sangi, Mandira, Amar Tumi, Amar Prem and so on. Bappi Lahiri joined the BJP as a candidate for the 2014 Indian general election from Srirampur, West Bengal.

Lahiri voices the character of Tamatoa in the Hindi-dubbed version of Disney’s 3D animation film Moana; He also composed and sang “Shona” (Gold), the Hindi version of “Shiny”. Dubbing for an animation character for the first time, he also appeared in the Ramratan song “Yeh Hai Dance Bar”. Bappi Lahiri has won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 63rd Filmfare Awards.
